A pastel wedding day at Northbrook Park in Surrey, with festoons of flowers

A pastel wedding day at Northbrook Park in Surrey, with festoons of flowers

Rachel and Alex created a romantic ambience for their glamorous country house celebration...

Rachel, 35, a lawyer, and Alex, 40, a surveyor, married at Northbrook Park in Surrey.

The atmosphere...

We wanted a relaxed garden party with a touch of glamour. I love blush-coloured peonies, so we used a palette of of ivory and pink to create a soft and romantic look.

We held a champagne reception in the walled gardens, followed by a more formal dinner in the orangery; we both love good food and entertaining, so we wanted to create a glam dinner-party setting.

The look...

Phillipa Lepley was the first designer I visited, but it wasn't until my second visit that I found my French lace gown.

My bridesmaids chose their own dresses from Maids to Measure and the flowergirls wore ivory dresses by I Love Gorgeous. Alex's suit was from Pakeman Catto & Carter, which he finished with a buttonhole of 'Bombastic' spray rose and a sprig of rosemary.

The bouquet...

I absolutely adore peonies and always knew that I wanted to have them, so our wedding date had to coincide with them being in season!

The details...

Our florist created the most stunning centrepieces of silver bowls filled with blowsy peonies, hydrangeas, spray roses, alchemilla mollis and stocks, each surrounded by mercury glass vases filled with additional peony heads and candles.

We hung festoon lights and paper lanterns in the trees outside the orangery and, for a romantic evening glow, we had an illuminated 'Love' sign and white lights. We chose a simple design for our cake, which was created by Zoe Clark. For the place settings we continued the floral theme with assorted labelled bottles and vases filled with blooms.

My favourite moment...

Seeing everyone we love in fits of laughter at the groom and best man's speeches will definitely remain as one of my happiest memories.

My tip for brides-to-be...

A fantastic way of collating your ideas is to set up a Pinterest account, it makes communicating your style to the suppliers really easy. And although an obvious one, you must try to relax and enjoy yourselves – how the bride and groom behave can really dictate the atmosphere.

Steal their style!
