A beautifully rustic summer wedding at Jimmy's Farm in Suffolk

A beautifully rustic summer wedding at Jimmy's Farm in Suffolk

Caroline and Garry filled their day with personal twists, country charm and the prettiest blooms!

Caroline Huxter, 26, an administrator, and Garry Shuttleworth, 29, a police officer, got hitched at Colchester Register Office followed by an informal ceremony and reception at Jimmy’s Farm near Ipswich, Suffolk.

Budget: £10,000

Garry and I wanted a relaxed, informal day, with no pressure or pretentiousness. The most important thing was that our guests enjoyed good food and a great party!

Jimmy’s Farm is not currently licensed to hold legal wedding ceremonies, but we worked this to our advantage and decided to have a private ceremony to make things legal, and asked one of our closest friends to conduct our unofficial ceremony at the farm.

We decided to skip the formal tradition of having a top table at our wedding meal, and instead our guests were sat with a mixture of both families and friendship groups. We liked the idea of this as it was in keeping with the spirit of ‘bringing two families together.’

For our flowers we wanted an understated, clean, country feel, as if the flowers had been picked en route to Jimmy’s Farm.

We visited a wonderful local florist who completely understood our vision. The bridesmaids carried gypsophila tied with hessian, which matched our table decorations of gypsophila-filled watering cans. It looked fresh and understated, and worked well with what we had in mind.

We had decided not to have a traditional wedding cake and instead opted for a heart-shaped stand filled with Ferrero Rocher and country-style crates full of cookies to satisfy our guests’ sweet cravings on the day.

What I loved most about our wedding was having all of our favourite people under one roof. The whole day, including the preparation, had a wonderful atmosphere and we genuinely enjoyed every second of it!

Top tip for brides to be: Don’t let anyone tell you who to invite or what you should do! It’s your day.

Steal their style!
