An enchanted forest wedding in Lancashire

An enchanted forest wedding in Lancashire

Written by Katie Byrne

Claudia and Martin celebrated their love in a relaxed celebration at Beeston Manor

We wanted a relaxed countryside wedding. From the moment we arrived at Beeston Manor and walked around the grounds, we absolutely knew it was the perfect venue for us!

It had everything we wanted for our celebration: quirky guest rooms and beautiful reception rooms (with gorgeous exposed beam and brick areas), as well as the option to hire the whole venue for the day. Plus, the venue is family-run; this appealed to us as it added to the relaxed and personal atmosphere we wanted to create.

In terms of a colourscheme, we decided a fresh, uncomplicated theme would best compliment the venue's beautiful setting. We opted for subtle greens and earthy woodland colours and textures to make this come to life. We used fresh flowers with a feminine flash of pink to give a romantic feel.

I tried on multiple wedding dresses and showed my friend screenshot after screenshot of gowns I wanted - but finding the perfect wedding dress for a 4'11 woman with curves is actually pretty difficult!

In the end, my oldest friend (who I've known for years and who works in the bridal boutique) found my dress: it flattered me in all the right places and I didn't feel self-conscious in it. I knew it was my dress: I just felt amazing it.

My bouquet comprised a mix of pink and white dahilas, vernonica, phlox, pink lisianthus, pink Aqua roses and eucalyptus, tied with hessian. I chose these flowers because they had a classic bridal look and it was feminine along with the hand tied aspect and flash of wildflowers, it added to the relaxed country style wedding we had in mind.

I had a charm made for my bouquet: it was a picture of my departed grandparents on their wedding day. It was my way of having them with us.

Martin wore a bespoke suit from Moss bros, with a silk tie and pocket insert in the same colour as the bridesmaids' dresses. He also wore my grandfather's pocket watch, with a buttonhole of white Vendela rose.

My bridesmaids wore gowns by Veromia's D'zage Collection; the dresses were modified into a corset-back to match mine.

We decorated our reception with floral centrepieces, which comprised hydrangeas, veronica, white Vandela roses, dahlia and eucalyptus; these sat on top of a woodland display which featured wooden slices and birch tealight holders. Scattered on the tables were little wooden hearts with our initials and wedding date inscribed.

We wanted to give the reception an enchanted forest feel: we used artificial autumn leaves, fairylights and soft green organza to create a romantic finish. Our reception tables were named after different types of tree - and MDF!

Our wedding cake was vintage-inspired and had three tiers; each tier was wrapped in floral ribbon. The cake was made by my oldest friend, mentioned above.

Along with our bridal party, we walked through some muddy fields to get some of our wedding photographs taken alongside a digger. It was really random, yes - but it was so much fun to do! A friend and work colleague filmed the day and to watch this moment back it always makes us laugh.

My father surprised us by hiring a beautiful vintage wedding car; I thought he was driving me in his BMW Z3 but he'd given that to the groom and best man and I had no idea at all.
