BROWSE: 2018 wedding dress trends (as spotted on the New York catwalks!)

Written by Katie Byrne

Starting the search for your dream wedding dress over the next few months? Get stylishly inspired with our round-up of the most gorgeous bridal style trends - as spotted on the catwalks at New York Bridal Week!

Trend: halterneck

The halterneck is back, people! Perfect for spring-y or arly summer celebrations, the pretty halterneck is an eternally elegant style that perfectly blends girlish charm with seasonal sophistication. We spotted multiple variations on the catwalk, from a spaghetti-strap worn higher up (left) to a wider strap attached further across the bodice.

Trend: shirt collar neckline

Sporty and sophisticated, this smart shirt-style neckline makes for a clean, minimalist bridal look.

Trend: off-the-shoulder

Will this style ever not be in fashion? Effortlessly romantic, the 2018 designs have evolved pleasingly, with frothy fronds of material, elegant embellishments and exaggerated details taking things to a whole new level.

The trend: thigh's the limit

Shorter and prettier than ever before, the bridal mini is the perfect pick for a fashion-forward bride planning a summer celebration. Rime Arodaky had it covered, pairing  daringly short skirts with excessive sleeves for the perfect contrast.

Trend: tassels

Is there anything more glamorous than a Gatsby-inspired tassel? From hints of feathering to all-out sparkling strands, we especially loved Hayley Paige's tasselled tiers. Fabulous!

Trend: caped crusader

From barely-there wisps to crystal-embellished cloaks, the bridal cape has had a serious style upgrade for 2018. Already popular in last year's collections, the new offerings are more excitng than ever before, giving brides the option to cover-up and look oh-so stylish at the same time.

Trend: cover-up with an edge

Likewise, the ever-popular bridal leather jacket made a reappearance on the catwalks, with gorgeous lace gowns perfectly contrasted with chic, sleek jackets - perfect for rewearing after the wedding day!

The trend: dramatic silhouettes

On the subject of chic and sleek: voluminous, princess-worthy gowns were deliciously abundant on the catwalks - because if there's one day in your life you can dress like a total, utter queen, it's your wedding day.

Trend: sheer heaven

Love to be daring when it comes to fashion? Chances are you'll either love or loathe all the sheer that's popping up at the moment. Heaven - and extra-divine when embroidered with flowers or gems.

Spotted at: Hayley Paige (left) and Galia Lahav (right).

The trend: colourful embroidery

Brightly-decorated gowns popped up at most of the #NYBFW shows, including these two beauties from Hayley Paige and Lazaro. For brides who want a dress they can rewear after their wedding day - or who simply don't fancy white - it's the perfect compromise.

Trend: Goth glamour

A perfect contrast to the whites, creams and champagnes that dominated the catwalks? Gothic shades of black, plum and purple which as well as making a delicious alternative to the traditional bridal gown, also slots neatly into an occasionwear wardrobe.
