Our day, our way: a Christmas-themed wedding at Owen House in Cheshire

Our day, our way: a Christmas-themed wedding at Owen House in Cheshire

'Tis the season to get married, as Natasha and Aaron show with their gorgeous winter wedding

Natasha Brierly, 28, a fashion buyer, and Aaron Lee, 33, an accountant, were married in a religious ceremony at St Wilfrid's Church, and held their reception at Owen House Wedding Barn, both in Mobberley, Cheshire.

Budget: £25,000

Flower budget: £3,500

Aaron and I met at a mutual friend's house warming party and hit it off straightaway. Our engagement was very casual – we were lying in bed!

The theme of our day was Christmas Party; all the men wore black tie and the girls were in party dresses. As it was a week before Christmas, I wanted a fun and festive atmosphere.

I really wanted a Christmassy vibe, so we filled the room with Christmas trees decorated with white fairy lights for an extra twinkly effect. We also had mini trees lining the tables (the guests took them home as favours), which smelt amazing! We had a saxophonist playing a mixture of current music and Christmas carols at the drinks reception and throughout the meal.

Our venue was so easy to get to from the church and I loved how it was such a blank canvas that we could dress with the trees – and the toilets were fabulous! Really we just wanted a big party and nothing too formal.

I thought all the floral arrangements made the church and the venue. The pink roses in my bouquet also made all the photographs look amazing next to the grooms jacket!

I didn’t want too many flowers as I didn’t want a ‘boho’ feel, so although my bouquet was made up of burgundy and pink roses, plus greenery, and the flower girl had a smaller version, there were no other blooms.

I also didn’t want traditional centrepieces on the long trestle tables, so we had different sized glass potted Christmas trees. We used The Potting Shed in Alderley Edge for all flower arrangements and they were simply amazing.

The pew ends inside the church were decorated with mistletoe and outside the church there was a huge bunch hanging under the lychgate; that was a fab photo opportunity as we came out of the church as husband and wife! The barn was also decorated with mistletoe and ivy.

There was the most amazing circular wreath that was adorned with burgundy roses behind the top table, this was a striking feature that we still have hanging up in our dining room at home!

Our cake was tiered with burgundy roses decorated around each tier, it was very simple and we kept the top tier as is tradition. We didn't have any favours, I just told our guests to take home the mini Christmas trees from the tables.

My dress was by Ronald Joyce and was the third one I tried on in the first shop I went to – I'm very decisive! I wanted something quite simple with a bit of sparkle as it was the week before Christmas; I loved the bottom of the dress and the train it created. My veil also had a diamanté trim so it would twinkle in the candle light.

Apart from the ceremony my favourite moment of the day was when I walked down the aisle, I just loved it! Also, travelling to the church with my dad in a white MK2 Jaguar was unforgettable. Something that made me laugh out loud was the hymn If I Were a Butterfly that we had heard at a pet service we had been to a few months before the wedding, so we just had to have it on the day!

My tip for brides-to-be: Don't stress, it all comes together in the end! I was in India two weeks before the big day with work, getting covered in mosquito bites! I also didn't have a videographer as we wanted the day to be a gorgeous memory in my head.

Steal their style!
