About to start the search for your wedding dress? Read this first...
Mistake #1: Starting your search with a narrow mind with a narrow mind
Chances are, you've always known the style of wedding dress you want to wear on your big day, ever since you were a little girl. But what if you can't find it - or if it doesn't live up to your expectations when you do? Keep an open mind when it comes to browsing for your gown: you might be surprised by what you fall in love with once you start looking through those hangers.
Mistake #2: Not knowing your budget
Knowing - and sticking to - your wedding budget is crucial when it comes to shopping for the gown. If you start with an unrealistic expectation, you might have your heart broken. There's nothing worse than falling in love with a dress that costs three-times more than what you can afford. Work out what the maximum you can spend is and take it from there.
Mistake #3: Leaving it until the last minute
Around six months is the ideal amount of time to spend on your wedding dress; this includes finding it, ordering it and having it altered to fit you perfectly. Six months is an ideal length of time, and will make the process a breeze rather than stressful.
Mistake #4: Bringing too many people with you
While it's great to involve your family and friends, too many cooks really can spoil the broth - or in this case, the shopping! Limit yourself to three people as a maximum; too many opinions can make things complicated.
Mistake #5: Not wearing suitable lingerie
Think practical. Think reliable. Think - dare we say it - sturdy. Wear underwear to your fittings that will be comfortable and modesty-protecting.
