The current trend for beautifully wild and unruly blooms couldn’t have come at a better time for British florists and flower growers. Why? Because it’s what they do best. And, while nearly 90% of flowers sold in the UK are currently imported, that’s set to change...

“We believe it’s a combination of the trend for chintzy floral fabrics and flowers in jam-jars as well as the desire to be eco-friendly, which has made people more aware of local flowers,” says Gill Hodgson of Flowers from the Farm. “People are looking for more authentic and seasonal flowers now,” agrees Vanessa Collins from The Flower Mill Cornwall. “Having garden roses in December is not unlike eating strawberries with your Christmas dinner. There’s something special about knowing your flowers are air-mile free; we believe they’re more vibrant and fragrant when they’re fresh from the field too.”
