An Oxfordshire wedding filled with flowers and adorable rustic details

An Oxfordshire wedding filled with flowers and adorable rustic details

Written by Katie Byrne

Lucy and Mike’s wedding was filled with spring blooms and charming décor...

Lucy, 28, a retail buyer, and Mike, 29, a web developer, married at Caswell House in Brize Norton, Oxfordshire.

The atmosphere...

We wanted our venue to echo the countryside landscape we had grown up in and Caswell House was perfect, with its expansive grounds and charming, rustic barn. It provided a great blank canvas to work with.

The seasonal flowers of May inspired our pastel palette, which lent itself to the romantic atmosphere we wanted to create for our guests.

The look...

I loved my Sassi Holford dress. The organza flower detail on the bodice was beautiful and its full tulle skirt gave it a classic, princess-like charm. I added a lace jacket for the ceremony and removed it for the wedding breakfast, adding a sparkly belt and jewellery instead.

Mike hired a morning suit from Henry’s of Banbury, and wore an ivory rose buttonhole, while my bridesmaids wore pastel-coloured dresses by Dessy. They carried rose bouquets and wore nude shoes and dainty jewellery to complete their look.

The details...

In order to achieve a rustic feel, we decorated the barn with bunting and fresh flowers. We hired light-up signs as part of the décor and we used cream-coloured birdcages for tablecentres, filling them with roses, peonies, hydrangeas and sweet peas – the same blooms used in my bouquet.

To maintain a romantic feel, we filled mugs spelling the word ‘LOVE’ with roses, peonies, sweet peas, viburnum and foliage, which smelled amazing. We decorated the base of our cake with brightly-coloured flowers and each layer was a different flavour. We also had a candy cart for our guests to enjoy throughout the evening.

My favourite moment...

We loved our guests’ reactions to the routine we performed for our first dance.

My tip for brides-to-be...

Be sure to invest in a good photographer – your wedding lasts for one day, but your photos will last a lifetime.
