A retro Dallas wedding, filled with stylish details

A retro Dallas wedding, filled with stylish details

Written by Katie Byrne

A floral backdrop set the scene for Carissa and Adam’s retro-inspired wedding...

Carissa, 25, an administrative assistant, and Adam, 27, an editor, married at Three Three Three First Avenue in Dallas, Texas.

The atmosphere...

Our venue, a 1920s loft space boasting original hardwood floors, white-washed walls and industrial piping, was ideal for our celebrations. We love the Beatles and wanted a swinging ’60s theme in a vibrant palette with accents of gold to match the carefree feel of that era.

We used trendy colour blocking and lots of floral design – we even decorated the ceremony hall ceiling with hundreds of bright faux flowers.

The look...

I wanted my outfit to make a statement; I chose a lace dress with a shimmery gold overlay by Sarah Seven and, as I wanted a bohemian-style look, I paired it with a floral crown and champagne-coloured veil.

I held a colourful bouquet of ‘Pincushion’ and ‘Café au Lait’ dahlias, ranunculus, scabiosa, feverfew, waxflower, lavender, jasmine vine, maidenhair ferns and seeded eucalyptus.

The details...

In order to keep an informal party atmosphere, we had lounge seating with mismatched cushions and pink-sequinned cocktail tables. We hung handcrafted paper flowers overhead and, for each table, we had different coloured floral centrepieces on floral-printed table runners, surrounded by tapered candles.

We used floral-print ‘reserved’ cards from Stationery Bakery for our place names and, for our favours, we gave our guests home-baked cookies along with their cocktails as they arrived at the reception.

My favourite moment...

We improvised our first dance with a theatrical piece, acting out a timeline of our relationship while lip-syncing to songs, which was superfun and really special.

My tip for brides-to-be...

Provide umbrellas! There is no telling what the weather will be like on the day. We had torrential rain and used the umbrellas to usher our guests in – they loved the extra personal touch.

Get the look!
