An enchanting country house set the scene for Amy and Matthew’s nuptials
Amy, 30, a solicitor, and Matthew, 31, a broker, married at Barnsley House in Gloucestershire.
The atmosphere...
We fell in love with the welcoming feel of Barnsley House. The gardens were in full bloom, making it the perfect backdrop for the English countryside setting we wanted.
We decorated the steps of the summer house with moss-covered pots filled with hydrangeas, and we placed candles inside hurricane lamps beside them to create an atmospheric glow, while pretty paper pompoms hung from the trees.
The look...
I chose a strapless number by Suzanne Neville, which featured lace detail on the bodice and a full tulle skirt. I teamed it with a pair of sparkly Jimmy Choos.
Matthew chose a bespoke navy blue suit, which he wore with a silver tie, white pocketsquare and Mulberry cufflinks. He finished his look with a buttonhole of spray roses and hydrangeas, while my bridesmaids wore floor-length gowns in a palette of pink and grey, and held posies of fluffy ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ peonies.
The details...
In one of the rooms of the house we had a photobooth, complete with original 1930s cinema seats for guests to enjoy, and this vintage element inspired the rest of our décor.
The walls of the Potager Restaurant, where we held our wedding breakfast, is painted a beautiful sage hue, so to complement we had clusters of peonies, hydrangeas and roses in mercury glass vases on the tables, surrounded by candlesticks.
Other table décor included our place settings – old-fashioned luggage tags tied with twine and sprigs of rosemary. Finally, to welcome our evening guests, we had cocktails in the gardens with three tasty bespoke creations.
My favourite moment...
I’ll always recall the moment I was first handed my bouquet – I didn’t want to put it down again!
My tip for brides-to-be...
I had planned lots of DIY projects, but in reality there wasn’t enough time. Take a step back and think about what is most important to you as a couple to help you to prioritise.
