Real-life best men share their groomzilla experiences
"He told me I needed to get Ed Sheeran to perform at the wedding, or else."
When Jerry first mentioned he wanted Ed Sheeran to perform at his wedding, I thought he was joking. But I was wrong - he was actually being very, very serious. I have no idea how he thought I'd manage it - he said I should start a Twitter campaign to try and get him to turn up and perform for free. When I told him I hadn't been able to do it - obviously - he didn't talk to me for a week. Bit weird...
"He asked me to cover up for what happened on the stag do."
A lot went down on his stag weekend, which happened overseas. Feeling guilty, he made me promise to never breathe a word to his fiancée, which, of course, I didn't. However, she got wind that something had gone down, and he made me pretend that it involved me. My girlfriend was furious and I still don't think she really believes that it was him, rather than me, that was involved.
"He asked me to shave off my beard."
Although thinking about it, I think it was probably more the wish of the bride... My beard was my pride and joy, and it had taken me a long time (and a lot of maintenance) to get it to the point it was at when he asked me to be Best Man. Two weeks before the wedding, he asked me if I could shave it off, as otherwise it would 'spoil' the wedding photos.
"He said I couldn't bring my girlfriend."
Guest-list numbers were tight, so part of me almost understood. We'd only been going out for four months at the time but the other members of the bridal party were all allowed to bring their partners. He told me it was because of space, and because we'd been dating for the shortest period of time... But even so. I had to slow-dance with his grandmother instead!
"He insisted on having his stag do the night before the wedding."
When Joe gets drunk, he gets drunk. When he insisted on having his stag the night before his wedding I was worried, but he insisted it was more traditional than doing it a few weeks beforehand. Like a fool I agreed - and so it was the next morning that I ended up trying to un-hangover him in time for the wedding ceremony at 11am. I don't think the bride was very happy...
