An enchanted woodland wedding in the heart of Canada

An enchanted woodland wedding in the heart of Canada

Written by Leanne Wilcox

A magical forest set the scene for Maria and Corey's romantic nuptials

Maria, 29, a communications coordinator, and Corey, 29, a pilot for the Air Ambulance, married in a ceremony at a family residence on Lake Winnipeg, followed by a reception at Pineridge Hollow, Manitoba, Canada.

 The inspiration...

We wanted to create a romantic, woodland fairytale feel, which was also down-to-earth, like us.

We married in the forest by my grandparents’ woodland cabin; we had so many happy memories there so it felt like the perfect place to celebrate our love.

Our colour palette kept changing as I couldn’t make up my mind! In the end we opted for neutral green and beige tones, with touches of blush and lavender. As we love theatre drive-ins, the wonderful staff at our reception venue hung a makeshift screen outside the tent so our guests could watch a special slideshow before our first dance, it was amazing!

The style...

It took me almost a year to find my dress! I tried a variety of styles, and in the end I chose a dreamy princess-style gown which I fell in love with as soon as I put it on. I removed some of the jewel embellishments and added a corset back to the bodice, and it was perfect.

I held a pretty posy of garden roses, hydrangeas and stachys byzantina with a cute ladybug pendant wrapped around the stems. My bridesmaids wore beautiful floor-length gowns by Sorella Vita in a blend of champagne, pink and purple tones, while Corey looked handsome in a Vera Wang tux.

The details...

We dressed our tables with burlap and lace tablecloths, and jars of gypsophila which we displayed on old books. To complement the vintage element, we hung black and white family photographs on old doors. Corey made an adorable candy stand: Corey and Maria’s Sugar Shack – it was lovely!

He stocked it with loads of sweets and a popcorn machine which he bought me when we first started dating. I also made some customised bags so our guests could take their sweet treats home as favours.

My favourite moment...

There were so many beautiful moments, but just after our first kiss Corey wrapped his arms around me and gave me a huge hug. it was like nothing i have felt before – i completely lost myself in the moment!

Steal their style!
