Four things to do before you pick up your wedding bouquet

Four things to do before you pick up your wedding bouquet

Written by Katie Byrne

All ready to go on the morning of your wedding day? Make sure you do these before you pick up your bouquet...

#1 Ask someone to remove them from water in advance

Not too in advance - but you want to make sure the stems are damp rather than dripping wet. Also, make sure a damp teatowel or cloth is to hand to wrap around the stems of your blooms.

#2 If you're a hayfever sufferer, pop the anti-histamines in advance

Of course, if you suffer badly with hayfever, you might want to opt for faux flowers. If you're a mild sufferer, take medicine which you know doesn't leave you feeling tired or queasy an hour or two beforehand - this will stop sniffs and snivels from spoiling your wedding morning.

#3 Ask your florist to remove any pollen-y bits

If you're holding lilies, or any other pollen-coated flowers, eye them warily. The last thing your snow-white dress needs is a streak of yellow pollen down the front of it, so talk to your florist about removing the pollen beforehand. (And yes, 'pollen-y bits' is definitely a technical term.)

#4 And finally... Don't sit down and put them in your lap!

What with pollen and wet stems lurking beneath those pretty petals, don't put your wedding bouquet in your lap when you sit down. Instead, put them to the side or ask a bridesmaid or your MOH to hold them instead.

PS! Keep your eyes peeled for any nasty winged surprises that might attach themselves to your bouquet throughout the day. We're looking at you, wasps.
