Sarah and Tom themed their wedding with fashion-inspired details and DIY twists
Meet the couple: Sarah, 26, Wedding’s fashion editor and founder of blog thefashionache.blogspot.co.uk, and Tom, 29, a sail maker, married at St Peter’s Church in Suffolk and held their ceremony in Le Talbooth, Dedham, Essex.
Their budget: £20,000-25,000.
The bride says: The day before the wedding I was painting the photobooth backdrop, and filling dressing table drawers with marshmallows. I had hand-made lots of the décor, including the photobooth props and our guest book.
Our theme was ‘Baroque’, so the colour scheme was pink, peach, gold and white, and the favour boxes were tiny Baroque chairs containing little chocolate hearts.
The dress was really important to me. I knew I didn’t want a big, traditional dress and I fell in love with my Jenny Packham gown. I was drawn to the jewelled halter-neck design.
Our table names were fashion icons – the top table was ‘Wintour’, of course.
Tom is a sail-maker and spends most of his life on boats, so he wore one red sock which represents ‘port’, and one green sock for ‘starboard.’
I felt like I was laughing all day. From my dad losing his buttonhole before the ceremony, to the best man’s speech, I didn’t stop grinning.
When I went to leave the house and it started to rain, I thought, ‘So this is how it’s going to be!’ But one of the good things about the rain was that it kept everyone in together.
Also, I kept having to lift the hem of my dress up, so I got to show my shoes off all day! One of my highlights was being on the dance floor with 80+ people. We had a swing band who were amazing.
My tip for brides-to-be? Send your invites early – which I didn’t actually do!
