A vibrantly colourful wedding at Fetcham Park in Surrey

A vibrantly colourful wedding at Fetcham Park in Surrey

Written by Katie Byrne

Alena and Marc welcomed guests from near and far to a sumptuous stately home

Alena, 26, and Marc, 28, both finance professionals, married at Fetcham Park in Surrey.

The inspiration...

Fetcham Park helped create a real sense of occasion. With its beautiful murals, grand staircase and opulent chandeliers, it really was a dream come true!

We didn’t go in with a set colour palette in mind; instead, we allowed the gold-leaf details in the Salon, along with our pretty pink and coral flowers, to set the scene. We were aiming for a relaxed yet traditional wedding close to London.

Since our guests were coming over from 17 countries – and with most of them travelling just for the occasion – we wanted everyone to enjoy themselves and feel comfortable, so we kept the day quite informal.

The style...

My dress was custom-made by Tatyana Merenyuk. I found the designer on a wedding blog and visited her studio in Brooklyn, New York, where I fell head over heels in love with her designs. That my dress was customised, too, made it all the more special for me.

My bridesmaids wore dresses by J. Crew – I picked the lavender colour, but I let them choose their own style.

We held bouquets of peonies and garden roses, as they’re my favourite flowers. I didn’t have any specific requests when it came to the  bouquets, yet somehow Paula Rooney knew exactly what I wanted – she nailed the look!

The details...

We held our cocktail hour outside on the terrace next to the fountains. We created a pretty floral display for our drinks dispenser table, with flora-filled pots on stepladders either side.

Our reception room was already stunning, so didn’t need much more decoration. For place names we had gold art deco keys with luggage tags attached, while the favours – Keep Calm and Carry On books containing famous quotes – were fantastic conversation starters.

My favourite moment...

If I have to pick one, it would be the speeches: they were magical. My dad, Marc and his best man all delivered amazing speeches. It was very emotional – everyone was laughing and crying at the same time.

My tip for brides-to-be...

Pick the best suppliers you can afford and let them work their magic. Everything will be OK. Don’t stress over the little things too much and definitely don’t try to control everything – just let go and have fun!

Steal their style!
