15 ways to make your wedding day unforgettable

15 ways to make your wedding day unforgettable

Written by Katie Byrne

Add some serious wow-factor and create a celebration your guests will always remember with these ideas...

#1 Send out must-keep (and must-RSVP!) wedding invites

Pick gorgeous stationery. BTW, 'gorgeous' doesn't have to mean expensive - it just needs to match your day and your personalities!

#2 Set up a wed-site to keep your guests informed every step of the way of your wedding plans

This will make them feel involved even if they're not part of your bridal party.

#3 Pick a breathtaking venue...

What's your big-day dream? Whether it's a barn, a castle, or somewhere closer to home, try and pick a location for your celebration that brings your collective big-day vision to life.

#4 ...Or alternatively, pick a venue you can make breathtaking

There's plenty you can do - just take a look in our DIY section for endless ideas!

#5 Take the time to choose your perfect wedding dress

Don't rush into a decision, or pick a gown simply because you're bored of trying them on. When you know you know - so keep searching until you find The One!

#6 Fantasy florals can make or break a celebration

That's not to say you have to spend a fortune on them - talk to your florist about how you can get more bang for your bridal buck, and research what could work in terms of decorating your venue.

#7 Add extra personality with your decorations

Think monograms, colourscheme tie-ins, DIY details... The sky's the limit!

#8 Take a look at this list and get inspired

Happy reading!

#9 Write your own vows

Make them meaningful, and pack in as much character as possible. Click here for our tips for writing your own, as well as some quotes from our favourite celebrity 'I do' moments!

#10 Choose a friend or family member to be your officiant

Having someone you both love perform the ceremony is a great way to add some extra 'us' to your ceremony. (Although remember to check that your venue allows it!)

#11 Provide favours your guests can use after the big day

For example: something they can grow or eat - we've got endless ideas for what you could do here and here.

#12 Offer something super-fun at your reception

Examples include: a photobooth, an unmissable dancefloor, a magician, a delectable midnight buffet, a hot chocolate bar...

#13 Opt for an open bar

Not every couple can afford to stretch to it - but if you can, your guests will love you. (Or alternatively, you can save the money for something else. #JustSaying)

#14 Pick something brilliant for the entertainment

A fabulous Elvis impersonator, an up-and-coming DJ, fire eaters, a jazz band... Whatever tickles your fancy! Make sure you watch and/or listen to examples of their work before booking and, if possible, get reviews from previous customers.

#15 Give an after-party option

Chances are your venue will require you to leave by a certain time - but that doesn't mean the celebrating has to end! Let guests know in advance what the after-party plan is and book transportation for getting there in advance.
