A chilly forest-themed fairytale wedding filled with seasonal details

A chilly forest-themed fairytale wedding filled with seasonal details

Celeste and Christiaan's celebration featured deep red blooms and a breathtaking mountainside backdrop

Celeste Nel, a sales executive, and Christiaan Tickner, a financial director, both 32, held their ceremony and reception at Ashanti Estate in Western Cape Town, South Africa.

Budget: £11,000

We chose Ashanti Estate because it was unlike anything we’d seen before; its mystical, almost fairytale quality had us transfixed from the moment we set foot inside. We also loved that it was an all-in-one venue. Our venue inspired our autumnal enchanted forest theme.

We decorated the venue with tons of leaves (they were everywhere... the chapel, entrance hall, bathrooms...) which created our beautiful ‘forest floor’.

We hired trees and added fresh fruit to our tablecentres, such as plums and berries, and set out a few white roses for a touch of elegance. We also used plenty of candles, which were placed in holders at varying heights, to add a romantic evening glow.

I was keen to use plenty of moss in our décor too, so my mum and I found decorative moss at a craft store and she made our table numbers. We also had each guest’s name laser cut out of wood for favours.

We wanted to create a romantic ambience, so alongside hundreds of candles and different coloured lighting, we hung naked bulbs from the ceiling above our sweetheart table.

To complement our theme, we opted for a naked cake – it worked out well as I don’t like icing! We had a chocolate mousse flavoured sponge with lashings of toffee drizzled all over – it was absolutely delicious!

As we love to karaoke at home, we printed off the lyrics to one of our favourite songs (Piano Man by Bob Dylan).

We rolled them into scrolls, tied them with string and placed them in floral pots at the bar. At midnight the DJ made an announcement and everyone wholeheartedly sung along – it was perfect!

My tip for brides-to-be: On the day, remember to stop and take it all in. And then try to recapture that feeling as often as you can – because you won’t want ever to forget it, trust me!

Steal their style!
