Review: a romantic getaway in Edinburgh

Review: a romantic getaway in Edinburgh

Written by Laura Atri

We check into The Roxburghe for a bit of 4* R&R in the heart of the Scottish capital

Who would have thought that amongst the hustle and bustle of thriving Edinburgh you would find a tranquil four star boutique hotel? The Roxburghe Hotel stands proudly in the capital's Charlotte Square and is home to the fabulous George Street Bar & Grill, Samovar Lounge (perfect for cocktails with the bridesmaids or afternoon tea with the mums) and a wonderful Balance Spa – oh, and did we mention that it is filled with plenty of Georgian charm for the ultimate in romance?

The hotel may offer 199 gorgeously-decorated bedrooms (some were designed by the Duchess of Roxburghe herself!), but it still feels homely – some rooms have open fires with coals and logs provided; order room service and shut yourselves away from the rest of the world in style.

Treat yourself and upgrade to a junior suite which has great views of Edinburgh and gorgeous period features. Exquisitely furnished across 40sqm of space, there is a separate lounge area with free wi-fi (well, you have to check all of those pictures from the big day!) and a flat screen TV.

Although you will be in your own loved-up newlywed bubble, if you can, try to find the time to explore the exciting and cosmopolitan city of Edinburgh. Packed full of culture, Instagram-worthy architecture, dramatic skylines and even sandy beaches, this is a year-round city – from festivals to theatre, art and street shows to Christmas markets, its little wonder Edinburgh is such a popular location to tie the knot. Plus, the hotel's concierge has been voted the best in Scotland and the team is full of insider tips to make sure you and your guests get the most out of your stay.
