A pretty vintage garden party set the scene for Holly and Mike's flora-filled day
Holly, 29, a hair and beauty salon owner, and Mike, 29, owner of an electric company, married at The Old Kent Barn.
The first time we viewed The Old Kent Barn we just knew that it was the place we wanted to get married – the setting was idyllic. The gardens were filled with pretty pink and white flowers, and among the flora stood a large gazebo, which was the perfect spot for us to say our vows.
We wanted to create a fun and relaxed day with a vintage garden party theme – and our venue, paired with its beautiful gardens, couldn't have been a more fitting backdrop.
I tried on lots of dresses and although they were all lovely, they just didn't seem me. All the designs were strapless and I didn't feel comfortable, but as soon as I stepped into my Jenny Packham gown, I knew it was the dress.
I finished my look with a pair of Jimmy Choos, a sparkly Jenny Packham crystal headband and a beautiful veil featuring subtle beading. My bridesmaids wore dresses from Coast, while Mike looked dapper dressed head-to-toe in Hugo Boss.
We went for a lilac palette in our flowers and had pots of hydrangeas dotted around. We used luggage tags for our table plan and hung them from old wooden crates, while wooden mesh hearts hung from our chairs which lined the aisle.
We weren't so keen on a traditional, classically-iced cake, instead we wanted something really fun and eye-catching, so we chose to go with Choccywoccydoodah because they are the best place for something that's totally unique and out there.
Our cake was definitely loud and fun, and a prominent feature of our day, it was ornately decorated with sugared flowers in lots of bright colours and it stood out beautifully.
I knew straightaway that I wanted Euphoric Flowers to arrange our flowers. I worked closely with our florist and we compiled a moodboard using Pinterest; it really helped when choosing our colour scheme.
We also used included lisianthus, scabiosa, lavender, roses, freesia, succulents and veronica. I wanted a good mix of different flowers and definitely wanted to include veronica, as that was my nan's name – it was really lovely to have a small piece of her with me on the day.
