19 ways to decorate the ceiling of your wedding venue

19 ways to decorate the ceiling of your wedding venue

Written by Katie Byrne

The only way is up! Create a breathtaking display above your guests with these beautiful ideas...

Two simple rules before we begin...

1) Check with your wedding venue that they are happy for you to decorate ceilings. Older venues, particularly those with beamed ceilings, might ask you to refrain - make sure you ask before you invest in any of the decorations!

2) Don't try anything dangerous yourself. There are experts who will be able to help you hang decorations safely and securely - the last thing you want is a sprained wrist in time for your wedding day... Or a pom-pom falling down mid-speeches and hitting a guest. Awks.

And with that in mind - happy browsing!

Let's start with the classic idea: bunting.

You can't go wrong!

For a whimsical, vintage-inspired celebration...

Think paper lanterns and fairylights. Perfect for adding a whimsical twist of romance to your reception

In fact, paper lanterns and pom-poms on their own = just plain fabulous.

Buy 'em in colours that match the theme of your celebration for an extra-coordinated palette.

And fairylights are rather gorgeous, too.

Money no object?

Talk to your florist about creating a breathtaking floral display, suspended from the ceiling. It won't come cheap, though!

Seriously - wow!

For a more budget-friendly alternative, think less is more.

For example: pretty bridal parasols filled with flowers make an eye-catching decoration for a relaxed summer wedding. Just divine!

Get creative with your suspended florals - think arrangements, foliage bunting and more!

Suspend stepladders from a sturdy ceiling for a creative way to hang flowers, candles and lights!

Balloons are a relatively inexpensive way to add some colourscheme-pretty to your reception area.

PS: When Said Gutseriev and Khadija Uzhakhovs tied the knot in a 'billion-dollar' Moscow wedding in spring 2016, they adorned the ceiling of their venue with lights and flowers.

The result? A breathtaking, fairytale setting for their 'I do' moment!
