6 brilliant ideas to consider for your wedding reception

6 brilliant ideas to consider for your wedding reception

Written by Katie Byrne

The wedding experts at Petal Moments share their favourite ideas for an unforgettable celebration...

Your wedding reception will probably be the largest party that you will ever plan, so it’s good to have some ideas about how you can make it stand-out from others you have attended or go to in the future. Many brides will have dreamed of this special day for many years and have in their minds ideas of how they want everything to look - but there are so many opportunities to get creative so why not think outside the box and make it something extra special.

Not all your ideas need to be original, but that’s not a problem. As there are so many weddings going on at any one time this would be nearly impossible, but by taking one or two ideas and making some small changes you can make them very individual to your own wedding celebrations.

The first main decision to be made will be the reception location; it is always a good idea when visiting different location to have a vision of what you want in the back of your mind. Start by thinking about the style or theme of the reception you would like, it could be something as simple as a phrase that sums up how you want your day to be feel or something more personal. Try to think about the decor, the menu, the reception music, it can be difficult to make all the right choices but much of this will depend on your budget.

Just remember, no matter if you have a big budget or if you need to make every penny count, there will always be somewhere out there for everyone, the particular somewhere that will give you the starting point for making your wedding reception a very special occasion.

Want to add some wow-factor twists to your celebration? Keep reading for some brilliant ideas!

1. Embrace a wedding theme!

Venue theme designing does not always have to be as hard as people think. With some simple introduction of colours, textures and even maybe so extra props any venues can be made to look breathtaking. With some extra thought and attention to a theme detail and a little bit of imagination the possibilities are endless.

#2 Theme your table centrepieces

Your table centrepieces will be one of the main focal points of your reception so try to be more creative in this area of your theme. From traditional flowers to more unconventional ideas like groups of photos, cut fruits in vases or seashell centrepieces let your mind inspire you and your venue designer to create something individual that will complement your overall venue theme.

#3 Cute and quirky table numbers or names

Cute and quirky table numbers or names are a fun way to make your wedding reception more personal. Why not give each table a number matching a date that means something special to you and your partner. Or give each table a song name from a list of songs that bring back some happy memories of doing something together.

#4 Guest special photo areas

Getting your guests involved in activities at your reception is always a good idea. One way of doing this is to make available an area with some props and disposable cameras where they can take photos. For a more professional result if your budget allows you can hire backdrops and digital cameras.

#5 Unique guest books

As an alternative to an ordinary guest book why not have something a little bit different like letting your guest sign a garden chair, post a message in a giant bottle or write a message a pebble. These will not only give your guest a fun activity to take part in but will also give you a unique memento.

#6 Have a sparkler send off

Arrange for your guest to all take part at the end of the evening to give the happy couple a sparkling send off.

This makes for a grand exit as your guests stand in rows with extra large sparklers overhead for the bride and groom to run underneath. It’s lots of fun and makes for some amazing pictures.
