8 quick things every bride should consider about her wedding dress

8 quick things every bride should consider about her wedding dress

Written by Katie Byrne

Make sure you consider these factors before your wedding day, ladies...

#1 Let's start basic: choose a dress that feels comfortable to start with

When you try it on, practice walking, sitting down and raising your arms above your head. This will give you an idea if it's too heavy or too tight - and, most pressingly of all, can you dance in it?

#2 It's better to buy too big than too small

Whilst a bigger dress can be made smaller, it's a whole other kettle of fish when it comes to making a small dress bigger. Don't buy a size smaller under the assumption that you'll lose weight ahead of your W-day!

23 questions to ask yourself about your wedding plans

#3 If you have sensitive skin, avoid beaded or intricately embellished wedding gowns

Or at the very least, make sure you have underwear that will protect your skin from being pinched or rubbed.

#4 If it's too long, get it hemmed

This will spare you having to keep your skirt hitched up all day - and also hopefully protect you from tripping over your own gown at a crucial moment. Don't think that wearing heels will make a difference!

#5 Avoid cramming yourself into support underwear that is too tight

Think practical when it comes to choosing the lingerie you'll wear under your dress: the skimpy, sexy stuff can wait for your wedding night! Pick sturdy, reliable pieces and trial-run them before your big day to make sure they're comfortable all day long.

#6 If your dream wedding dress is super-structured and tight, invest in a cheaper second dress

After eating and drinking, your dress will probably start to feel a little tight - so consider buying a gorgeous party dress that you can feel comfortable in for the evening part of your celebration.

#7 If you want to customise it...

...Make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Don't do it yourself if you have anything less than top-notch sewing or embellishment skills - click here for some sweet personalisation ideas

#8 Have a bathroom test-run

You need to know if you'll need the, er, services of your bridesmaids, or if you can manage it on your own. You'll also need to know whether or not you need to walk backwards (no - really), and you might want to consider investing in one of these.
