Kimberley and Jamie exchanged their vows overlooking the ocean, in a sundrenched celebration filled with rustic details
Kimberley Blondell and Jamie Owens tied the knot in a family and fun-filled destination celebration on the island of Rhodes.
I’ve always wanted a ‘pretty’ outdoor wedding - sweet, rather than grand. We also wanted a stunning backdrop to the wedding, something guests would remember!
My parents had visited Rhodes the year before and knowing the style of wedding I wanted said it was perfect. It all started with me seeing photographs of Philosophia, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the sea, simple but stunning. I decided that’s what I wanted and the rest of the wedding was built around that. St Paul’s chapel in Lindos became our ceremony venue, I’m not sure you can beat that – so so pretty!
I loved how the venues were both simple and understated yet stunningly beautiful. St Paul's Chapel is set in a bay and I walked from the top of the hill with my dad, as guests below watched us. I felt like a princess. It was a view I'll never forget - and I'd purposefully not visited the chapel beforehand to keep it a surprise for myself!
I loved the local people who were so warm and friendly and we’ve fallen so in love with Lindos that we’ve already booked a trip for our first anniversary!
Between the ceremony and reception we took our guests out on a champagne cruise, the perfect way to see the stunning scenery and cool off with the sea breeze.
I had a firm idea of what I wanted from a young age, I wanted everything to look natural, pretty and in keeping with the laid back way of Rhodes life.
My wedding dress was by Pronovias. I bought it 18 months before my wedding as I knew it was the one I wanted (after hours trawling Pinterest!). I’d always wanted a fishtail gown; I wanted the dress to look dramatic without being too much.
Jamie wore cream chinos with a baby blue blazer and floral shirt. His buttonhole was a cream rose. Our boys wore baby blue waistcoats over white shirts with navy chino shorts – each had pink bow tie and pink detail on the shirts.
One of my favourite details of the day? My boys (Harry and Willem) presenting our wedding rings in a shell we’d found on the beach.
I had five bridesmaids and being a destination wedding needed to choose dresses that would travel well and be lightweight. I picked the In One Clothing Multiway Girls dresses: they pack down into a tiny little travel garment bag and simply need four hours hanging for any creases to fall out.
My maids loved the multiway aspect of the dresses as they could choose how they wanted to wear. We decided to go for a pretty rainbow colour scheme, there were over 27 colours to choose from but I picked pretty pastel shades. We accessorized with cream flower hairbands, sashes and sparkly pumps.
My flowers were a mix of cream roses and soft pink hydrangeas. My five bridesmaids held posies of cream and pink hydrangeas which complimented each of their five rainbow colour dresses.
We had a traditional Greek 'custard naked' wedding cake, which we cut before the wedding breakfast as per local custom.
For our favours, we gave the adults Ouzo and personalized love hearts with lottery tickets for adult favours, and fun activity packs for the children to keep them entertained.
We had a champagne cruise straight from the chapel jetty. The boat took us out for an hour to see the sights of Lindos and St Paul's Bay from the sea. This was a highlight for me: the scenery was so stunning and it was great to cool off in the sea breeze! From the cruise we went onto Philosophia for our reception.
Our reception venue was amazing. Barbara and the Lindos Weddings team decorated the venue exactly as I’d imagined it to be, using hessian, wildflowers, soft pastels, fairy lights... And all with the stunning sea as a backdrop.
Steal their style!
