Bianca and Sam tied the knot at Scampston Hall in North Yorkshire
Bianca Scott, 27, a fashion buyer, and Sam Thackray, 31, a construction manager, were married in an outdoor ceremony followed by a marquee reception at Scampston Hall, North Yorkshire.
Sam and I got engaged as we were walking along a lovely beach in Whitby with our family dogs. The theme of our day was English meets Tuscan with a bohemian vibe; we wanted everything to be kept simple and rustic, with plenty of green foliage and elegant white flowers.
We prefer a mismatched look, so had no colour scheme and we even threw in a Moroccan-inspired lounge area for good measure! We had bottles filled with flowers grown in my mother-in-law’s garden hanging from the trees, and lemon trees, hydrangeas and lavender in French apple crates at the marquee entrance.
Foliage was key for us, in particular, olive branches mixed with lots of different wild flowers. I actually found my bouquet inspiration in Wedding Flowers & Accessories magazine – the Yves Piaget roses were key, I loved that deep pink tone.
As our whole wedding was planned around the outdoors, we wanted to spend the whole day in the gardens and made sure this was reflected inside the marquee, too. Flowers easily set the theme for the day, so with our olive and lemon trees you could easily see there was a Tuscan influence.
Our venue offered everything we were looking for – a beautiful country home with gardens for the marquee and an outdoor ceremony. It was also very important to me that my family dog was there, and we wanted to choose each individual supplier ourselves to create our perfect day.
I designed my dress alongside Jane Elmer – I couldn’t findmy dream dress, so enlisted Jane to help me. It was a French lace dress layered over a nude blush silk. It felt so lovely to wear and fit to perfection. I adored the double V neckline and the train; there was so much fabric in that skirt.
One highlight of the day for me was walking to the ceremony – we had the huge gardens to walk through before we came in to the sight of our guests. I have never felt so nervous in my life, but the sun was shining, the grounds looked spectacular, my girls were making me giggle, my dad was supporting my jelly legs... I loved the calmness and anticipation; I wish I could do it all over again.
We spent the whole day laughing, but Sam’s best man, Chris, wrote an incredibly good speech that had us all crying with laughter! The only time I wobbled was when my voice started to break as I read my vows to Sam.
The first ones on the dancefloor was us, but it was filled pretty immediately by our family members. We were the last to leave at about 1:30 as we didn’t want to miss anything.
My tip for brides-to-be: Only go with suppliers that you really click with, as they’ll be the ones that will put their all into your big day.
Steal their style!
