11 easy-peasy ways to add a Christmas-y finishing touch to your winter wedding

Written by Katie Byrne, published 19th dec 2016

From baubles in vases to candy cane favours - you'll adore these ideas for your day!

Planning a winter wedding? You lucky thing! Arguably the most beautiful season of the year, winter weddings are ideal for filling with cosy details, sparkling finishing touches and, of course, nods to Christmas.

26 PHOTOS THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT A WINTER WEDDING

Whether you're marrying pre, during or post the Christmas holidays, there are endless ways to include a festive twist in your wedding day - browse through some of our favourites below!

#1 Sing carols at your ceremony

Get the festive cheer flowing from the off by asking your guests to sing your favourite Christmas carols rather than traditional hymns. Love a bit of nostalgia? Walk down the aisle to Walking In The Air by Aled Jones for a seriously dramatic entrance you (and your guests) won't forget.

#2 Use chalkboards to display festive messages and greetings

We love what real-life couple Joanne and Conor did at their seasonal Irish wedding, which included this sign, left. Lovely, effective and relatively simple to DIY, too!

#3 Baubles make gorgeous place-settings

Or, think natural: sprigs of holly and ivy, or glitter-dipped pine cones, also make beautiful additions to your tables.

10 WAYS TO INCLUDE BAUBLES IN YOUR WEDDING

#4 Similarly - say hello to the bauble table plan

Pretty, no? Ask your guests to remove their respective baubles and they double-up as favours, too.

#5 If younger guests are attending...

Consider asking one of your ushers to dress up as Father Christmas and surprise them with small gifts half-way through the reception. Alternatively, set up a grotto area and ask your bridesmaids to tell any kids in attendance that if they're good - and we mean very good - then Santa Claus might just pay a visit later on.

#6 Why not invite your guests to take part in a Secret Santa?

This will require a bit of prior preparation: ask guests to tell you when they RSVP if they're happy to participate or not, set budgets and then either allocate names or do it on a random basis. Ask one of your ushers (or Santa Claus from the idea above) to be in charge of handing out gifts.

#7 Use fairylights everywhere

#8 Cute candy canes or gingerbread men make cute, inexpensive favours

Especially the latter, which any kids on your guest-list will have fun decorating. And a perk of candy canes: you can take photos like this...

#9 Fill your venue with seasonal scents

And candles! Lots and lots of candles - we love this clever idea, which combines the two.

#10 Have a Christmas-inspired drinks bar at your reception

Think hot chocolate with marshmallows, flavoured coffees, Hot Toddy... Partner with comfort-food snacks: pizza, jacket potatoes, bite-sized portions of fish and chips and so on.

#11 Planning a rustic-inspired reception?

Cover everything in glitter. No, really. EVERYTHING.
