"We didn’t really have a theme, but knew we wanted something soft and elegant, with lots of green, white and peach running throughout..."
Sarah Hind, a student at Durham University, and Zack Street, a music producer and drum manufacturer, both 21, had a civil ceremony followed by a religious blessing and reception at Middleton Lodge, in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Zack and I met on a school trip to Paris and we quickly became inseparable. We got engaged on the beach during a family holiday to Mallorca. We were walking with our toddler Joel when Zack got a ring out of his pocket, but he was so nervous he dropped it in the sand!
We chose our venue as it is a beautiful Georgian country estate with so much character. I assumed it would be out of our budget, but Middleton Lodge offered flexible pricing options and we opted to have our wedding on a weekday, too.
We didn’t really have a theme, but knew we wanted something soft and elegant, with lots of green, white and peach running throughout.
My dress was the ‘Willow’ by Jenny Packham and I bought it second hand from Preloved. I had seen so many dresses I liked, but as I am short and young-looking, a lot of them looked like prom dresses on me. This dress was so elegant and I felt so mature and beautiful.
Flowers were really important to us as they create such a romantic and ethereal feel to the décor. We looked at quite a few different florists before finding Jane from Wedding & Events Floral Design and totally falling for her work! She got our vision immediately and also helped with the overall design, as well as sourcing additional accessories.
My favourite part of the design was the way Jane dressed the pavilion where we had our ceremony with sheer curtains tied with roses and with jars of flowers on the chairs down the aisle.
We used a lot of eucalyptus and roses – my favourite flowers were the David Austin roses we had in the bouquets and now they are everywhere in our house! I had my heart set on peonies initially but it wasn’t the right season for them, so when I saw the David Austin roses I fell completely in love.
We went with peaches and whites to create a soft palette with a bit of lavender to tie in with the bridesmaids dresses and ties.
One of my favourite moments from the day was when my then two-and-a-half year old wanted to wait for me with his dad, so our wedding coordinator carried him down – however, they thought it was me coming and started the processional song!
My tip for brides-to-be: I would say don’t worry about what things you ‘need’ to have, as long as your day involves the people you love, it will be amazing. And look for high street bargains – I got my dream dress via Preloved, so it was in our budget.
Steal their style!
