Dan and I met when we were both at university in Portsmouth. We got engaged in New York a few years later during my favourite time of year, Christmas.
The inspiration for our day was a fresh and romantic spring wonderland. We love that time of year and felt like the tones of the soft dove grey and romantic blush pink really complemented one another.
We chose Silchester House because we loved that you had exclusive hire of the whole venue and it had such a homely feel.
We wanted a permanent marquee for our wedding breakfast, but also separate rooms for dancing and the bar area – the rooms all flow beautifully. It really felt like it had the wow-factor!
Flowers were so important to us. They provide such a romantic and fresh look, as well as filling the air with a beautifully natural scent.
We used gypsophila, ‘Sweet Avalanche’ roses, lisianthus and freesia as we felt these complemented our theme the best and were in soft, romantic hues.
Our cake was three tiers – salted caramel, carrot, and lemon drizzle. We had the same fresh flowers as my bouquet to separate each tier. For our favours we went for sparkly boxes filled with Percy Pigs as that was the first present Dan ever got me.
Finishing touch-wise, we had a harpist playing throughout our drinks reception, which tied in beautifully with our theme and provided a lovely ambience. We also had flip flops on the dance floor for when the party-goers feet were sore – they were a big hit!
It felt so special to have all the people you love the most in one room sharing your big day. It makes me smile just thinking about it! I loved all of the speeches, especially the one given by my dad, he was so nervous but it went perfectly.
We had a pizza party in the evening, serving our guests New York sized pizzas to snack on while they danced the night away to 90s pop classics! We were only a minute or so into our first dance when our bridesmaids joined us, which was so lovely.
We left and headed off to bed at around 1am, but I didn’t want to take my dress off, I loved wearing it so much!
My tip for brides-to-be: Try not to worry about the little things going wrong or about trying to please everyone else. It’s about you and your partner and having the day of your dreams.
