Want to buy a piece of Prince William and Catherine Middleton's wedding day?

If you've ever dreamt of attending a royal wedding but thought it was impossible, we have a crumb of hope for you.

As in, literal crumbs.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are selling off a slice of their wedding cake at an upcoming auction, with proceeds donated to charity.

10 things you didn't know about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding

If the thought of forking out hundreds (or perhaps even thousands - after all, a piece previously sold for £5,850) for a slice of six-year-old wedding cake doesn't quite appeal, let us remind you: this was no ordinary wedding cake.

The eight-tier bridal bake was created by Fiona Cairns for the royal couple's iconic 2011 nuptials and boasted a floral influence, and was heavily inspired by the language of flowers. The design represented 17 different flowers, and was adorned with over 900 sugar-paste flowers.

The cake will go up for sale at Chiswick Auction House on 27 September, with the highest bidder taking the presumably-still-edible slice of cake home with them.

The sweet slice will be presented in a specially-designed cream and gold commemorative tin, which features a printed card reading: "With best wishes from TRH [Their Royal Highness] The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall in celebration of the wedding of TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge".

Bids for the piece of cake are expected to start at £800, with the auction taking place next month; find out more about the auction here.
