Matt and I met at a beach bar in Dubai, where we both live for work. He later proposed on a weekend away at Emirates Palace, an amazing hotel in nearby Abu Dhabi.
The theme of our day was to be romantic and elegant. Our colours were white, blush and gold – I didn’t want to have just one colour scheme as I feel it can be overbearing.
We wanted our day to be classic, simple and timeless. We wanted to get married where the weather is pretty much guaranteed, but we also needed a venue that was large enough to accommodate our family and friends for four days.
Château de Varennes suited our personal style to a tee. We wanted a rustic French château with modern amenities, and our venue certainly ticked all of the boxes – the interior was modern, although you could still see the history of the property.
All I knew about flowers was that I wanted lots of them! I think they really bring the venue to life. We had an abundance of beautiful roses and fluffy hydrangea, complete with plenty of lush greenery and foliage.
There were plenty of personal finishing touches; welcome bags for everyone that included maps of the area, hangover kits, itinerary, adaptors etc.
We also had activity bags for the kids instead of favours including colouring books, bubbles and games.
Our tables were named after places that mean something to us in Dubai. We had a caricature artist as additional favours and a slideshow behind the dancefloor with photos of us and our guests.
One of my highlights from the day was the whole evening from the cocktail hour to the dancefloor. Our whole timeline went out of the window – everything was delayed by at least an hour but it didn’t matter as we had the venue all night.
The children were the first on the dancefloor and we were the last! The evening was so lively; we didn’t go to bed until 3am, however, some of the guests were still in their suits when we came down for breakfast!
My tip for brides-to-be: Be prepared for things to go wrong but remember you will still have an amazing day even if things don’t go exactly to plan!
Steal their style!
