Want a luxe honeymoon but don't have the budget to match? Amanda Statham plans the route to a celebrity-inspired trip for less
The star inspiration: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Jeep safaris are good, but newlyweds Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel took game watching to new heights of OMGness on their amazing 2012 honeymoon.
The pair wed at the Borgo Egnazia resort in Italy before jetting off to a private game reserve in Tanzania’s Serengeti, where they divided their time between a swanky cottage at Sasakwa Lodge and ultra luxurious canvas escape at Faru Faru.
Along with lounging in infinity pools, early morning game drives and dining beneath the stars, they went on a hot air balloon ride for a bird’s eye view of the Serengeti to spot the 'Big Five'.
Africa Odyssey (www.africaodyssey.com) offers three nights each at Sasakwa Lodge and Faru Faru, including a hot air balloon trip, transfers and economy international flights, from £7,800 per person.
How to make it your own...
If £15,000 for two sounds a smidgen over budget then how about honeymooning at the romantic, yet much less pricey, tented Governors’ Camp in Kenya? You can take to the skies in a hot air balloon above the Masai Mara where the open expanse of the plains means you have more than a good chance of spotting big game.
When your hour of drifting is over, celebrate with bubbly and breakfast cooked by a chef on the balloon’s burners – hot stuff!
Imagine Africa (www.imagineafrica.co.uk) offers fi ve nights, including international flights and transfers, from £1,979 per person. It also offers a Masai Mara ballooning experience from £275 per person, including a cooked champagne breakfast.
